I use to be in the same camp as everyone else regarding the Iron Order M/C. Actually I was one of the hardcore haters. The notion that you could get a patch through the mail without putting the work in to get it, the notion that the club had a bunch of cops in it which made it a cop club, the list goes on and on . The notion of a club just doing what it wanted to do without asking or following the guidelines of the biker world, something that was established long ago is what had everyone upset. Then this author started looking at them with a different lens. I wanted to know why people joined the Iron Order M/C. Wanted to know why they were hated so much by others in the biker club world. So through an old friend of mine whom we shared time in the B&W world I got to go to an event one of the local chapters was having .
When I arrived at the event I had all the preconceived notions everyone else had about the Iron Order. But those notions quickly started fading as I got to know the people at the event. For one, everyone was really outgoing and greeted me right away. Everyone was sitting around enjoying a barbecue and talking bikes and where to ride next. One thing that instantly I noticed, they didn’t talk about the other clubs or take any offense to the way they were looked at by anyone. To put it bluntly they really didn’t care. That surprised me a bit and I was taken back. Let’s be honest clubs these days have become a place to pump each other’s egos or see who has the biggest dick. This too my surprise wasn’t the case with Iron Order. They were just happy hanging out with the brothers and sisters, didn’t care a bit what others thought of them.
That got me thinking, this club was living the way it was always intented to be in the first place, going out there riding their bikes, partying with each other and not caring what others thought. I have to admit that I was one of those many who viewed the lifestyle in a particular way. But that day shattered the way I looked at everything.
The question that I asked myself is “Did I and everyone else have it wrong about this club?”. I’d have to answer yes to that. Why? Because being bikers we never were really all into following what society thought about us. We as bikers would do as we pleased without asking permission from anyone, so why do we knock a club that does what we all as bikers stand for in the first place? Is it so in the culture that we are made to believe the so called 1%ers hold the lifestyle to a fix way of doing things? Or do we as bikers look up to an image that really isn’t what being a biker is all about?
Yes the Iron Order has some police in it. But they also have a shit ton of war vets that fought for this country . It also has hard working blue collar people that go to work every day to support a family. In essence, the Iron Order has a makeup of what makes America .
It was conceded in the beginning that the way membership was run put a black eye on the club. But as in any organization you have to go through growing pains and learn from your mistakes. Now the Iron Order has grown and has a prospect period before being a member, no you can’t just get a patch in the mail. That unfortunately will always be said by those in clubs and their supporters to keep knocking something they don’t like.
Iron order M/C has come a long way since their originals started it. The structure is down pat now. It has grown into a strong brotherhood, one that don’t care what everyone else thinks. It has no desire for power or territory, it’s a club that enjoys riding and the brotherhood of it’s members. Isn’t that what it’s suppose to be about after all? Brotherhood and riding? To learn more about Iron Order M/C go to their website or actually talk to one of it’s members!!!! Maybe then without all the noise you can actually make an informed decision about them.
