To the Editor:

Let me preface all of this by saying that I am a private business owner of the Daytona Inn and Suites, in Downtown Wildwood. I am a Wildwood resident and a father of two, raising children part-time, in Wildwood.

I don’t work for the City of Wildwood. As president of the board of directors of the Downtown Wildwood Business Improvement District (an unpaid gig), I like to think that part of my duty as a tourism leader and volunteer is to make Wildwood as family-friendly as it can be.

Some have said that the City of Wildwood is in the wrong for canceling biker weekend, also known as Roar to the Shore. It’s traditionally always been the first weekend, in September, after Labor Day weekend.

I remember when the event first got started over 20 years ago. It was a great event.

Hells Angel and two associates convicted of several offences in Court trial

It was full of great couples and families who enjoy their bikes and all the fun that goes with it. It was the perfect shoulder season event for our shore town.

Things took a turn for the worse when an organized crime gang took over the event a few years ago. They progressively became a bigger and bigger presence within the city; so big of a presence that it has basically turned into a small national convention for the said organized crime gang.

Sturgis voters overturned Tuesday the City Council’s decision to annex the Jackpine Gypsies Motorcycle Club property.

Some have said, “They are harmless. They won’t bother you if you don’t bother them.”

Well, I have an uncle in my large Italian family. He’s a very nice man. If you were to ever meet him on the street he would give you a big smile and shake your hand, maybe even hug you, but if you looked at his wife the wrong way, or maybe you backed into his Cadillac by mistake, I don’t think you would think he was such a nice man anymore.

This event has gone from being a wonderful event that I looked forward to every year into an event that has turned into a stain on the City of Wildwood’s reputation, with only a handful of bars and motels that profit from it while most of the business community and residents have decidedly been against hosting this event in its current form. It is not a good look for Wildwood.

Owner of the Famous “Chopper Dog,” fears this birthday will be his last

Yes, I realize that we have so-called “adult events” in the shoulder season that may not be considered the most family-friendly events, but they certainly do not include high levels of illegal activity, including drug sales and plots to assault and murder other people.

For all of you business people, Facebook warriors, and “brave, anonymous spouters” who want to complain to the city that this is wrong, this is not fair, etc., please, instead of bothering our hard-working city officials and employees about this, feel free to private message me instead.

I am a business owner who is willing to give up thousands of dollars in income on the biker weekend in order for Wildwood to remain a safe place for our guests and residents alike.

A house with ties to one of the most notorious biker gangs is on the market in Toronto’s east-end and it could be yours for $2.189 million

I am raising children and running a business around this illegal activity that has been going on for the last few years. I’m done with it, and Wildwood, rightly, should be, too.

  1. And the man said it himself “I’m willing to give up thousands of dollars” so hes making money exactly what the event is supposed to do. And having been to this event myself most do make money. The one thing is, the gentlemen forgot to complete his sentence so let me complete it for him. “Im willing to give up thousands of dollars because Im self centered, could careless about my fellow bussiness men, i believe only my views matter and I dont like bikers” there i think that pretty much covered it and should be accurate.

  3. So are you advocating that your italian uncle should be banned too.
These “bike gangs” if they are commiting a crime call the cops. (I bet you protest to defund police right?) But it sounds more like you dislike theyre existence and in typical liberal communist mantra if you dont like it. You must ban it. Right?
I hope your children take your part time raising and ignore it. The world.doesmt need your sickness to spread.

  4. Do you have actual proof/evidence of this alleged “high levels of illegal activity,” or are you just accusing this motorcycle club of crimes you saw on Sons Of Anarchy? Or is Gangland: Undercover more your style?

  5. Yet, if “protesters” or BLM were coming to Wildwood (which results in 100x MORE violence than Bike Week) I guarantee this same business owner wouldn’t publicly speak up to claim he doesn’t want them there. Point is..Bikers can’t be that “scary” if he’s willing to be vocal about it. Plus, fellow businesses getting money from Bike event obviously don’t matter to him either

What an unbelievable self-centered prick, I am a member of that motorcycle club, and we’ve been going there that weekend for 20 years. All of a sudden a bunch of idiots such as yourself decide we are somehow equal to subhuman, what’s the next thing you’re gonna say no Black people on that weekend, or maybe no Spanish people ? We stay to our own we mess with no one . You apparently i’ve been reading too much on the Internet. Enjoy your August we will see you in September

They did that in Avalon on Catalina Island around 1958 with the motorcycle scrambles for the same reason…(History repeats itself, again) BSA had a Catalina Scrambler named after the event.

I would like to be the first to introduce myself I’m Dusty 6th gen cracker and a biker I feel that was a bit stereotypical I from right round Oxford if anyone still knows where that is…the statement made was “leave them alone they will leave u alone” ….I believe that should be any Americans viewpoint and what does that have to do with illegal activity. You spoke highly of your uncle a sweet man till provoked…. maybe should talk to him about being profiled. I would be more than obliged to meet you to let you understand the comments you make are as unfounded as me say all Italians are thugs…… Left my info for u brother..😘

  23. Some years ago my son, a professional man, father and good guy started riding with an MC. I was shocked and upset until I had the opportunity to meet some of the members. The guys I met were kind, intelligent, respectful and huggers. I had always thought that bikers were thugs, knocking over fruit stands and stealing old ladies purses. I learned not to judge a book by its cover. Recently I was leaving a shopping center and due to health problems struggling to get my shopping cart up a small incline. A gentleman came over pushed the cart and then helped to put the groceries in my vehicle. He was so pleasant and kind and I smiled to myself as he walked away wearing his colors of a 1% MC. There are bad apples in MC but I have also met some bad apples in the business world. Our world is struggling right now so
Mr.Daytona Inn find some kindness in your heart live and let live or you are just another bad apple.

    Oh hell no.
This one sure woke everyone up.
The guy wants to go all Mob vs. 1% on us. Fuck him.
I’ve outlived all but a few 1% guys I trust. And I’m dying. And still laughing.
Was good friends with a old school Mob guy. So old school that I knew who he was when I was a kid. Direct ties back to Benjamin Siegel (he hated being called Bugsy) and Meyer Lansky, the original Sicilian Families. And he was definitely Sicilian. Drove a black Caddy too.
So take your shitty attitude and check it with your own relative.
You’re the one being an asshole.
