PROVIDENCE, RI — The man state police put at the top of the bike gangs in Rhode Island is 33-year old Deric McGuire. After Wednesday’s arrests of 50 alleged bike gang members and their associates, state police presented an organizational chart with the accused people’s mug shots. McGuire, head of the local Pagans gang, was running the show, according to the chart. Thursday, he appeared in Providence District Court to face a judge. According to the state Judicial Portal, he is being charged with 177 felonies and three misdemeanors. Most of the charges go back to March 2017. (Police had McGuire and the others under electronic surveillance and intercepted both text and telephone messages, according to the state police press release.) Among recent charges, two were filed in the last couple of days. One is for residential mortgage fraud, and the other is for receiving stolen goods. There may be other charges pending.
McGuire is being held without bail. No plea was entered in court on Thursday.

A biker was knocked off the road Sunday by a California Highway Patrol vehicle, and the incident caught on camera has caused outrage in the motorcycle community.
Over the Memorial Day weekend, a large group of bikers took the road and went for a ride on the 210 Freeway. A CHP vehicle seemingly picked out one biker and attempted to pull the rider over.
Raul E. Garcia Martinez of Los Angeles was the biker who ultimately got knocked off his bike when his motorcycle came into contact with the CHP car. The CHP officer, who was not identified by name, handcuffed the rider under duress of a several other riders who thought the CHP officer had acted too aggressively with his vehicle.
According to CHP, Martinez yielded to the right shoulder then quickly accelerated before the crash.
“For unknown reasons, the left side of the Yamaha made contact with the right side of the patrol vehicle on 19 Street, west of Carnelian Street,” CHP said in a statement.
Martinez received minor injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. He was charged with felony evading.
