PITTSBURGH —
New video shows the fight between undercover Pittsburgh police officers and members of the Pagans motorcycle club at a South Side bar.
“My client was restrained by four, possibly six officers, and punched in the face after his hair was being pulled back and his neck was being pinched, punched over 23 times in the face and head,” said Lee Rothman.
Rothman is the defense attorney for Frank DeLuca, one of four men charged with aggravated assault after the Oct. 12 fight with police inside Kopy’s bar on South 12th Street.
Pittsburgh police said detectives were conducting an undercover drug investigation there when their cover was blown. The video shows DeLuca push an officer, then the fight began.
“I have questions about the restraint that was used with him to hold him so that others could beat him up,” said Beth Pittinger, executive director of the Citizen Police Review Board.
The CPRB and the city’s Office of Municipal Investigations are investigating.
A preliminary hearing for those charged in the fight was continued Tuesday. All four men are now scheduled to appear in court Nov. 16.
“There are several issues with this incident that are problematic. Once our office receives all the evidence that we have requested, we will be able to more specifically address these charges in court,” said Mike Manko, a spokesman for Allegheny County District Attorney Stephen Zappala.
