One Bexar County deputy is on administrative leave after an incident in which he and another person threatened to “shoot up” a Northwest San Antonio bar that ejected them.
Detention Corporal Edmundo Renteria was placed on unpaid administrative leave over an “off duty incident,” according to a Bexar County Sheriff’s Office statement. The office also seized Renteria’s department-issued equipment.

Two men who identified themselves as Bexar Deputies were drinking at Deol Bar and Grill, 6851 N Loop 1604, on Dec. 12, but were bounced after one appeared to offer a woman $20 for sex, according to NEWS4-SA. The pair later returned, threatening to “shoot the place up” and “kill people.”

The sheriff’s office didn’t identify a second deputy involved in the case. However, officials said they’re assisting the San Antonio Police Department with a criminal investigation. Internal Affairs is conducting a separate probe.

“We hold ourselves to a higher standard, in accordance with the expectations of the public we serve,” Sheriff Javier Salazar said in the emailed statement. “Our conduct must always be beyond reproach, whether on or off duty.
We are assisting the SAPD with all aspects of this investigation, and will handle it as swiftly and severely as possible, if the allegations are proven.”

The criminal inquiry is just the latest faced by staff at the Bexar Country Sheriff’s Office. Around two dozen deputies, detention personnel and civilian employees have been picked up in recent months for crimes ranging from drunk driving to sneaking drugs into the jail.
