BRUCEVILLE-EDDY, Texas (KWTX) – Marlin Police Chief Nathan Sodek shot himself to death after Texas Rangers arrived at his home Friday morning to serve warrants stemming from an investigation of what a source with knowledge of the case said was a sexual assault.
Authorities remained at the scene Friday afternoon at the home on Soules Circle, just north of the Bruceville-Eddy High School football field.

A source with knowledge of the situation said Sodek was with Rangers on the porch of the home when he suddenly turned and ran back inside, grabbed a gun and shot himself in the head.
Further details weren’t immediately available.
McLennan County Justice of the Peace was at the scene Friday afternoon.
Sodek was appointed chief in December after serving as Marlin’s interim chief following the resignation of former Chief Mike Pesses.
He had been with the Marlin Police Department for about a year when he was appointed.
Sodek is the second chief of the Marlin department to die of a gunshot wound in less than four years.

On Nov. 10, 2015, Marlin Police Chief Darrell Allen, who was shot and critically wounded during a struggle with a man on Nov. 1, 2015, while working security at a bar in Temple, died at Scott & White Medical Center in Temple where he’d been in critical condition since the shooting.

Derrick Wayne Gamble, 24, was arrested after the shooting at the Laid Back Lounge.
On Aug. 23, 2017, he was convicted of murder and two days later jurors agreed on a 95-year sentence.

So, he’s on the porch with the Rangers and they just let him run inside and get a gun and shoot himself without doing anything to try to stop him? Real good police work there idiots.
And why did the previous, interim Chief resign? Sounds like the entire place is full of rats.
