PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WJAR) — Providence police arrested 17 individuals Sunday morning after a confrontation between officers and people outside a known after-hours biker hangout.
The Providence Police Department said nearly every officer in the city was sent to a biker party shortly after 3 a.m. where an officer went to ticket cars that were parked illegally on the street.
Police said the officer was having an illegally parked car towed from the location when an individual attempted to gain access to the vehicle.

Police said the individual refused an officer’s command to get out of the car and pushed the officer.
Officers described being suddenly “overwhelmed” by partygoers after they tried to detain the man who went inside a car they were towing.
“Just kind of trying to get something from the car. He’s told to back off the car. We’re unsure of what’s in the car,” Maj. Michael Correia told WJAR. “A crowd came out of the after-hours party, circled the police officers.”
Police said the large group of people refused to disperse.
The crowd became hostile and threatened officers, the department said.
“And then it just escalates rather quickly into what’s described as a full-blown melee,” said Correia.
When asked to define a melee, Correia said it was “flat out fighting with the police.”
Police said those arrested, age 26 to 50, face a variety of charges.
Here are the names of the individuals charged in the incident:
- Joe Nadal for Simple Assault, Obstructing Police, Disorderly Conduct, Resisting Arrest.
