Houston area motorcycle club members and longtime law enforcement officials say they are worried that shootings last week along Interstate 45 led to the deaths of three men, with a possible link to a shooting earlier in April in Oklahoma City, could lead to violent retaliation.
A retired gang investigator in the Harris County Sheriff’s Office said conditions had been ripe for a new wave of motorcycle gang-related violence ever since the Waco shootout in 2015 – the bloodiest motorcycle gun battle in Texas history that left nine people dead and 18 others injured.
“We all knew the violence was going to get worse,” said the investigator, who spoke on the condition of anonymity out of fear of reprisal. “And when that happens, it’s bad for civilians. Because these people don’t pay attention to who’s in the line of fire.”
