One response to “WHAT MADE YOU BECOME A BIKER AND RIDE A MOTORCYCLE”
Here’s my answer! A mini-bike!
The bike was a red Murray
With training wheels and all
My father walked behind me
Not wanting me to fall
From there to a banana bike
A strange name for a ride
All the guys did have one
It was a thing of pride
A summer or two later
A mini-bike was mine
With 3 point 5 horse power
I loved to hear it whine
Sometimes at night I’d ride it
Down Schenley Park horse trails
Avoiding all the trail ruts
And other known pitfalls
Then came the Kawasaki
When I was seventeen
A blue KZ 400
One pearl of a machine
The years which swiftly followed
The decades numbering 5
Never did diminish
My longings still to ride
Then came the year 11
A beginning and a end
To a lifetime story
Would time be true to mend
Time to ride again I thought
To get back on the road
A Harley I would like to try
One I could afford
And there it was I found it
An Iron 8-8-3
With classic lines in Silver
A Sportster just for me
Of all the Harleys I had seen
From baggers down the line
The classic looking Sportster
To me was just divine
And now atop a 4-8
Blacked out all around
With 2 in 1 Bassanis
A throaty Harley sound
The winter months are coming
The bike is stored away
My memories of riding
Hold fast the riding sway
Alone again I sit here
Content without constrain
And look far off to spring time
When I can ride again
