16-Year Fugitive: Alleged Hells Angels Regional Leader Taken in Cancún Hotel Zone Raid

Mexican federal forces pulled a long-running Canadian fugitive out of one of Cancún’s more exclusive residential pockets on October 21, 2026. Robert Skojo, known as “El Rob” or simply “Rob,” was detained inside the Isla Dorada complex along Boulevard Kukulcán in the Hotel Zone. Authorities identify him as a senior figure tied to the Hells Angels Motorcycle Club’s operations in Quintana Roo. The joint raid involved naval commandos from the Secretaría de Marina, personnel from the federal security ministry, the Federal Attorney General’s Office, and Quintana Roo state forces. Three warrants were executed in the municipality of Benito Juárez. Skojo was transferred under heavy escort to federal facilities in Cancún.

Agents recovered roughly 1.3 kilograms of marijuana, two long guns, a handgun, two vehicles, and a cell phone. The phone is undergoing forensic examination. Mexican officials link Skojo to drug trafficking, extortion, and organized crime activity. He had been wanted by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police since 2010 on cocaine trafficking conspiracy charges after a conviction in absentia, plus a failure-to-appear count. Canadian authorities had circulated his details in recent years, including a 2024 Ontario RCMP wanted notice that flagged him as potentially in Mexico. Reports also indicate an active Interpol Red Notice and an extradition-focused warrant. At the time of the arrest he had been on the run for 16 years.

The location stands out. Isla Dorada sits inside the high-end strip that runs parallel to Cancún’s beaches, surrounded by major hotel properties and the tourist corridor that draws millions of visitors. This was not a remote rural compound. It was a premium residential address steps from the shoreline and the nightlife that defines the Hotel Zone. Mexican reporting has described Skojo as having stepped into a regional leadership and logistics role in Quintana Roo after the May 2026 arrest of Denis Ivziku, alias “Menace.” Ivziku, a younger Canadian national also carrying an Interpol Red Notice, was taken by naval forces in the same state. He was among those charged in Project Divergent, a multi-year Canadian investigation that targeted a network moving methamphetamine, cocaine, and fentanyl involving Canada, Colombia, Greece, and the United States. Mexican authorities had viewed Ivziku as both a leader and logistics operator for the cell operating in the tourism corridor that includes Cancún, Playa del Carmen, Cozumel, and Chetumal.

The back-to-back leadership arrests inside a single calendar year point to sustained pressure on the Hells Angels footprint in the state. U.S. federal agencies have long classified the California-origin club as a transnational criminal enterprise. Court records from the 2019 New York trial of Sinaloa Cartel figure Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán included testimony about contacts between Canadian Hells Angels members and cartel representatives. Former RCMP officials have publicly described the relationship as an ongoing working arrangement in which the club handled logistics, cross-border movement, and certain financial tasks that cartels did not manage directly. Quintana Roo has also drawn international groups from multiple countries, with the Sinaloa and Jalisco New Generation Cartels remaining the dominant local forces competing over transit routes. In that environment, biker networks have functioned as a secondary layer rather than the primary drivers.

State security statistics show a sharp drop in intentional homicides through the first half of 2026 under Governor Mara Lezama’s expanded deployment of personnel, even as drug trafficking cases rose. The pattern suggests enforcement has reduced visible street violence while financial and logistics activity continues in lower-profile channels, including real estate and supply networks inside tourist zones. Direct risk to visitors inside heavily patrolled resort areas remains limited, according to officials, but the repeated presence of alleged senior Hells Angels figures in luxury addresses underscores how deeply the infrastructure sits inside the same geography that markets itself as a destination.

Skojo remained in federal custody as of late October. Neither Mexican nor Canadian authorities had announced a formal extradition timeline. For the club, the successive losses of regional operators create the familiar question of succession and whether the logistics pipelines that ran through the Caribbean corridor will simply re-form under new hands. The pattern of arrests shows Canadian and Mexican authorities coordinating on fugitives who had treated the Hotel Zone as viable long-term cover. That cover is looking thinner.
