Harley-Davidson has introduced the 2019 Electra Glide Standard, a more minimalistic version of its popular tourer. This stripped-down motorcycle does not feature nifty sound systems, flashy screens, or fancy electronics, and instead highlights the raw experience of cross-country travel. It still features comfort, ride quality, and power while increasing accessibility through a friendlier price tag.
H-D originally offered the Electra Glide Standard back in 2007. However, the company felt that it cannibalized the Street Glide’s market. Now, the Electra Glide Standard is back as H-D again feels the need to offer a light-duty tourer for younger and more frugal customers.
The Electra Glide Standard keeps the iconic batwing fairing, saddlebags, cruise control, and cast aluminum wheels, as well as the 1,746 cc Milwaukee Eight 107 V-twin which makes 150 Nm of torque at 3,250 rpm. It is also sold as a solo seater in stock form, at a very low unladen seat height of 663 mm.

In terms of aesthetics, it is only available this year in Vivid Black with chrome accents. “To express the stripped-back essence of the Electra Glide Standard we focused on finishes that were simple, timeless, and fundamental to the Harley-Davidson’s touring line. Chrome was added to key components and complemented by polished and blacked out parts,” said Harley-Davidson’s Vice President of Styling & Design Brad Richards. “The rocker, cam, and derby covers are finished with chrome to emphasize the V-Twin shape of the Milwaukee-Eight 107 engine. In addition, they add a dose of nostalgia that draws a through-line all the way back to the first Electra Glide.”
The 2019 Electra Glide Standard sells for a retail price of US$18,999, making it the cheapest tourer in Harley-Davidson’s stable. Passenger-friendly parts and other touring packages are available as add-ons, while ABS is optional for US$795.
